Smithtown bowls.
Recently a Getaway crew headed off to go deep-sea fishing, but when the weather changed, a local suggested we head for the Riverview Hotel. . .
One of the locals suggested the best thing to do was head for the Riverview Hotel on the Macleay River in Smithtown, 45 minutes from Port Macquarie.
The Riverview is big on seafood if you like oysters you'll love theirs and you will find great meals at good affordable prices. They do get busy so it's a good idea to book, particularly on weekends.
After lunch we visited the Smithtown RSL Memorial Bowling Club and were made very welcome by the locals. Like most bowls and RSL clubs throughout Australia, the Smithtown Club offers free coaching, and it costs only $3 to get in. Don't worry if you haven't packed your bowls gear you will still be welcome in mufti.
The club has a snack bar on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, a licensed bar and they have a winner-takes-all pool comp on Friday nights.
