The Hilton Sydney re-opened in lavish style in 2006 after an enormous make-over. Running though the block between Pitt and George Streets in the centre of Sydney, the hotel has been a landmark since 1975. Zeta Bars are legendary in London, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok and the Sydney version is quickly catching on. It won the 2006 Australian Hotels Association's Cocktail Bar of the Year award.
If you love what they do, why not indulge in a bartender course with mixologists Grant Collins and bar manager Mikey Enright? They conduct Belvedere vodka master classes, the ultimate in cocktail making.
Students are greeted by Grant and Mikey with a welcome cocktail … maybe a Belvedere Pomarancza Sunset or Belvedere Luxury Cosmopolitan. Then there is a 30-minute talk by the mixologists covering the balance in cocktails and their consistent production.
You will be shown the appropriate utensils and glassware, fresh produce, spirits, liqueurs and juices, sugar syrup and fresh ice. You will learn to shake, muddle and use a bar spoon with enthusiasm and even learn about molecular mixology and freshly chipped block ice. There will be flaring and flaming demonstrations which will certainly impress when you are entertaining at home!
A 15-minute canapé break is taken on the terrace and then you put all you've learnt to the test. Students make cocktails and are judged on balance, presentation, cleanliness and of course taste.
