Peppers Balé Resort, just four kilometres from the centre of Port Douglas, is a luxurious place, modelled on the best spa retreats and pavilion accommodation of south-east Asia.

It is set in lush tropical grounds, and each of the 16 luxury sanctuaries is totally self-contained with a plunge pool and poolside pavilion with day bed.

There are one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom sanctuaries with full kitchen, open air living and dining areas, all luxuriously furnished. Guests may choose between air-conditioning or natural breezeways. There are separate laundry facilities and premium electronic entertainment.

Balé has a stunning pool and day spa with a range of beauty and massage treatments, fully equipped fitness centre, relaxing club lounge and yoga pavilion.

Italian chef, Tony Sassi, has taken flavours of the Adriatic coast to his restaurant, Sassi at Balé. He achieves great things with fish and other seafood, and chilli mud crab is one of his specialties. The restaurant opens every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Room service is available, guests can cook for themselves and there are cooking lessons on offer.

Balé sanctuaries start at $900 a double a night including your own private plunge pool, breakfast, and mini spa treatment for each person.
