Adelaide's newest boutique hotel: Majestic Minima. The sleek hotel in cosmopolitan North Adelaide is following a successful European trend. The rooms are smaller than traditional hotel rooms but, in this case, less is better. Everything is five-star standard, but you pay 3.5-star rates.
The hotel describes itself as a "B&B" which usually means 'bed and breakfast'. In this case it means "bed and budget".
Majestic Minima is Adelaide's first 24-hour self check-in hotel. All you need to do is swipe your credit card in an Internet station in the lobby and a room key pops out. The secure card gives access to all areas. Vending machines contain breakfast items or you can have a prepaid cooked breakfast at Café Bocca, just metres away.
The property is CCTV monitored throughout, and there is a pay phone and an offsite assistance intercom in the lobby.
The three-storey hotel has 46 compact studio rooms, some with balconies. They have king beds and ensuites with good hot showers. Linen is of high quality, rooms have safes, refrigerators, ironing boards, tea and coffee, air-conditioning and flat-screen TVs. There is also a guest laundry.
North Adelaide is in the city's green belt and has many bluestone and sandstone Victorian and Edwardian homes, some most elegant and grand.
O'Connell and Melbourne streets are lined with restaurants, cafes, bistros and pubs, serving cuisines from around the world. There are lots of art galleries and boutiques — all within an easy walk of Majestic Minima Hotel.
